Climbing in Margalef
Margalef, the climbing paradise
Do you like climbing? You are in the ideal place.
Margalef school, with nearly two thousand roads equipped at present, is the fifth climbing school in the world in terms of popularity and ranking (classification of the website 8a.nu). His conglomerate of spectacular quality rock offers an original and varied climbing, with routes ranging from stunning crashes to technical plates of tiny grips.
The school has way since fourth grade, for those who take their first steps in climbing, up to the 9b (First Round First Minute, only bound by Adam Ondra and Chris Sharma). It is a meeting place for the climbing legends: in addition to the mentioned Ondra and Sharma, visit often Margalef national figures (Edu Marín, Daila Ojeda, Iker Pou, Ramón Julián, Dani Andrada…) and international (Sasha DiGiulian, Killian Fischhuber, Muriel Sarkany, Daniel Woods and Angie Scarth-Johnson…).
To other mortals, Margalef has a varied and impressive collection of routes of all grades and styles. Although the school receives its maximum influx of visitors in the seasons of autumn, winter, and early spring, since it has huge areas of sunshine and a dry and temperate climate, it also has areas of shadow which can scale even in the hottest months. All sectors are within easy reach by car, and you can even walk to the closest (2-3 kilometers from the town) If you do not have own vehicle. And if you get tired of the peculiar style of Margalef (though we doubt it!) have other schools within walking distance: the legendary Siurana, Arbolí and Montsant, 40 minutes by car; Santa Linya and Oliana to little more than two hours; and even large areas of block in the Cogul and near Siurana, both a little more than half an hour away. Even in the strange case that touches you with bad weather and you have to literally climb the walls, near Lleida offers well-equipped indoor climbing walls.
